Pomgria

Sangria meets scandinavian design

Sangria in Sweden isn’t niche anymore. Between 2022 and 2023, category sales jumped over 250%, driven by shifting consumer preferences in flavor, origin, and format. What was once a seasonal novelty is now a growing subcategory with strategic potential.

At Motherland, we partnered with Kiviks Musteri - known for its deep fruit expertise - to create a product that responds to this transformation.

Pomgria is a spiced apple wine crafted from Österlen’s orchards, infused with Spanish sangria tradition. Its name - blending pomum (Latin for apple) and sangria - signals its dual heritage.

We designed Pomgria for today’s sangria drinker:

  • Curious: seeking new, fruit-forward profiles beyond the standard red wine and citrus mix.
  • Conscious: valuing quality, natural ingredients, and thoughtful packaging.

Pomgria comes in a 2L Bag-in-Box that reflects its origin and influence - Skåne reds meet Spanish warmth. The stylized apple motif anchors the design, supported by typography consistent with Kiviks Musteri’s established brand language. This isn’t a stylistic exercise - it’s a market tool. The format is tailored for eco-aware, design-driven consumers who value both sustainability and shelf presence.

Strategic insights that shaped Pomgria

  • Sangria has matured: Consumers no longer see it as a gimmick but as a segment with room for differentiation.
  • The eco-premium segment is rising: Quality-focused, fruit-based formats resonate with younger audiences who prioritize design and sustainability.
  • Local reinterpretation sells: Products that combine Swedish sourcing with global formats are gaining traction - especially when authenticity isn’t sacrificed.

Pomgria is Kiviks Musteri’s full entry into this fast-growing space - grounded in insight, built with intent, and designed to stand out.
