Karlstad University’s website reaches out not only externally to prospective student and interest groups but also serves as an internal platform for gathering operations-critical systems and services. The need for the website to be both modern, flexible and intuitive is high, not only for these operative reasons but also because — ultimately — a university is as challenged by competitors as any commercial enterprise. Add to the mix a fiercely demanding, choosy target audience (students) and we were clear: the website needed to feel new, fresh and above all interesting; characteristics teased out by the use of movement (parallaxes, filmed media, animated transitions, etc.), original typefaces and clean, contemporary, flat graphics.

The end result is an up-to-the-minute site for an educational institution in 2017 and beyond: modern in its expression and inviting in its interface, integrating social media, internal functionality and easy maneuverability whether on an over-arching or detailed level. Naturally the site works beautifully across all platforms, mobile and stationery, with a heightened user experience and smoother navigation through what is a very rich site.
